"Legacy Media" Has A Staffing Problem

“Legacy Media”, traditional broadcast news orgs, have a major staffing problem:

They continue to send the pink slip/fire/terminate/let go some of their most seasoned, long-time journalists.

Get rid of them rather than discuss the issue(s) or problem(s) internally. 

Former ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross, along with his team, reported on the issue of dangerous and recalled products being sold on Craigslist. In November 2014, they aired a segment on "20/20" called "Recall Roulette" that highlighted the problem. Ross attempted to interview Craig Newmark, but Newmark, who claimed to be retired and only a customer service representative at the time, refused to answer questions. The report described Craigslist as "morally irresponsible" for not implementing stricter filters to prevent the sale of recalled items. 

Brian Ross's departure from ABC News in 2018 was linked to a significant error in a report about Michael Flynn and his alleged contact with Russian officials during Donald Trump's presidential campaign. Ross initially reported, during a special report, that Flynn had been instructed by Trump to make contact with Russian officials during the campaign, which was later retracted and corrected. While Ross was suspended for four weeks without pay after the error, The New York Times reported that he and his longtime producer ultimately left ABC News. 

Here's a brief breakdown:

The Erroneous Report:

Ross reported, citing a source, that Trump had directed Michael Flynn to contact Russian  officials during his 2016 campaign. 

The Suspension:

ABC News issued a four-week suspension without pay to Ross after he made the error on the air, according to The New York Times and ABC News President Ben Sherwood apologized. 

The Departure:

While Ross was suspended, he and his producer, Rhonda Schwartz, subsequently left ABC News. 

Other Notable Errors:

Ross also had a previous error where he incorrectly linked the Aurora, Colorado shooting to the Tea Party. 

But he’s not alone.  More recently, they let go yet another one,  Senior National Correspondent, Terry Moran over a Twitter/X post:

Terry just recently completed an interview in the Oval Office with Trump.  One of the questions was in regards to the Maryland man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, his alleged "gang" affiliation and his subsequent Supreme Court order to return Mr. Garcia to the U.S. promptly.

ABC News’ solution, again, can him, fire him, send out a pink slip.

Now, I don’t know the “process” for what specifically, exactly gets or causes a journalist to be removed in 2025, but it seems very arbitrary, very random, and very hap-hazard. 

Kinda sloppy from the outside looking in.

It seems like a pretty simple solution, yet it’s doubtful ANY OF THESE NEWS ORGS will heed any of this: 

1)     Allow your journalists/reporters/correspondents to exercise their 1^st Amendment right to free speech.  Then, IF THERE’S AN ISSUE WITH IT,

2)     Have that person(s) add a disclaimer to it. You folks in the media are great at those.

That seems like a pretty simple fix. 

But if that’s still not enough, how about some re-training or re-education or something more along those lines rather than just simply DUMPING VALUABLE ASSETS?

Memorial Day 2025 and Donald's Poopy Diapers

This is a very, very brief  history of this important national holiday:

Memorial Day originated in the aftermath of the Civil War, initially as "Decoration Day," to honor Union soldiers who died in the conflict. It was first widely observed on May 30, 1868, as proclaimed by the Grand Army of the Republic. The holiday evolved to honor all U.S. military personnel who have died in service.

Civil War Roots:
Memorial Day's roots lie in the period following the Civil War, a conflict that resulted in the deaths of more than 600,000 soldiers.

Decoration Day:
In the late 1860s, communities began decorating the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers, an act that became known as Decoration Day.

Formalization:
In 1868, General John A. Logan, the commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans, formally designated May 30 as a national day to remember the Civil War dead.

National Holiday:
While widely observed, Memorial Day was officially recognized as a federal holiday in 1971.

Melania Trump bronze statue disappearance investigated by police 

A bronze statue of Melania Trump near her hometown in Slovenia has gone missing, five years after it replaced a wooden statue damaged by arsonists.

Slovenian police told news outlets that they’d been informed of a theft in the village of Rozno, where the statue was situated, on Tuesday.

Officers “conducted an inspection of the crime scene and collected information,” police spokesperson Alenka Drenik Rangus said in a statement Friday. “The investigating judge and the district state prosecutor were informed about the theft.”

No further details were given by authorities.

Photos published in Slovenian local media show most of the statue has been sawed off, leaving just its feet and ankles attached to the tree trunk it stood on.

The statue was situated beside a river near Sevnica, a small, picturesque town about 90 kilometers (56 miles) east of Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana.

Before this bronze statue was stolen, its original wooden incarnation was set alight in July 2020 by vandals. Badly burnt, it was then removed from its plinth before being displayed at an art gallery in the Slovenian town of Koper later that year and at an exhibition in Croatia in 2023.

Artist Brad Downey told media that he had always intended to make a bronze version of the statue to exhibit in an institutional setting, but decided to use it to replace the wooden sculpture after it was badly burned. 

Downey had originally commissioned the wooden sculpture from local conceptual artist Ales Zupevc, better known as Maxi, who was born in the same hospital and the same year as Melania Trump.

Its somewhat abstract depiction of the first lady in the sky-blue dress she wore to her husband’s first presidential inauguration in 2017 drew mixed reviews from locals.

Sevnica is a sleepy town of 5,000 that has profited from its most famous daughter, placing itself firmly on the tourist trail and selling a range of Melania-themed products, including honey, chocolate and cake.
